![]() ![]() Depending on their race, crew members posses special attributes to aid the success of the ship. Crew members can be purchased if they are slaves or found across the sectors through random events. Crew members can increase there skills by manning specific systems like piloting, operating weapons, or engaging in combat. Ships start with anywhere from 1 to 4 crew and can expand up to 8. Ships are all manned by a crew that can be expanded through your journey. Drone parts are used to deploy drones should your ship have the proper systems (through configuration or purchased at trading posts) to either repair, protect, or assault in combat. Missiles are fired from some higher powered weapons and can be found the same ways as fuel or used as a commodity if not needed for combat. All ships use fuel to travel, fuel can be scavenged, looted from defeated enemies, or purchased at trading posts across the sectors. In addition to scrap, ships use fuel, missiles, and drone parts depending on their configurations. Some systems get a boost when manned by a crew member without the need for extra power like Piloting, Weapons, Engines, and Shields. ![]() Ships start with anywhere from 1 to 4 crew members with the ability to recruit up to 8 of varying races. FTL uses Scrap as its currency which is used for both purchasing as well as upgrading a ship’s Reactor and systems. Each ship has a Reactor to supply systems with power represented in bars with more powers constituting both more power and a higher level. Each of these systems can be upgraded and require power from the ship to operate. In addition, most ships also include Shields, MedBay, Doors, and Sensors with some boasting even more for combat specialization. Each ship includes a base configuration of systems including: Engines, Piloting, Oxygen, and Weapons. Because the beacons are a static map, you know the stops but not their current occupants so when you arrive you never know who or what is going to greet you. Your route is based on a system of beacons deployed across each sector facilitating point to point travel. Between you and the rest of the Federation’s fleet are 8 procedurally generated sectors holding unknown friends, enemies, shops, and side-quests. Additional subsystems like Oxygen, Door control, and Scanners are present in some ships as well. These systems can vary depending on the ship you use but usually include Engines, Shields, Cockpit, Weapons, and a Medical Bay. You are given control over multiple systems on the ship key to its ability to make it to your destination. On board, you are transporting a data packet intercepted from the rebellion and must deliver it to the Federation fleet to turn the tides of war.
